Overview

Plan to join Maranatha for a Fall project in Brazil’s Minas Gerais, a massive, landlocked state in southeastern Brazil, renowned for its 18th-century colonial mining towns, rugged mountain landscapes, and as the culinary heart of the country.

Volunteers will build a church in the little rural town of São Gonçalo do Pará as part of a campaign to have one church in each city in that State. Currently, a group of 15 members is reaching out to the city to share the love of God. They were able to buy a piece of land, but we need to support them to finally build their temple. São Gonçalo do Pará is a welcoming municipality located in the center-west region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The city has an estimated population of approximately 13,000 inhabitants and is known for its tranquil atmosphere and strong community spirit. The city’s economic activities include dairy production (famous for its dulce de leche), charcoal processing, siderurgy, and footwear manufacturing.

An optional excursion to Rio de Janeiro will be offered, a globally renowned city for iconic landmarks such as the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain, the dramatic Sugarloaf Mountain cable car, and famous beaches like Copacabana and Ipanema.

Excursions
Rio de Janeiro

Volunteers will have the opportunity to visit Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, which will feel like stepping into a postcard of Brazil’s natural beauty and vibrant culture. Standing beneath Christ the Redeemer high above the city, you’re surrounded by sweeping panoramic views of mountains, ocean, and neighborhoods below. A cable car ride up Sugarloaf Mountain offers another breathtaking perspective, especially as the sun begins to set over Guanabara Bay. Down at Copacabana Beach, the atmosphere shifts to lively and relaxed, with golden sand, rhythmic waves, street vendors, and locals playing volleyball or strolling along the famous black-and-white mosaic promenade. Together, these iconic places capture the spirit of Rio—majestic, energetic, and unforgettable.
