Peru Project July 2026

Between 2004 and 2006, Maranatha constructed nearly 100 church buildings in Peru to provide places of worship for the increasing number of congregations. As Seventh-day Adventist membership continued to grow in the country, Adventist Church leadership in Peru asked Maranatha to return in late 2019 to build more churches and schools. Peru was locked down for most of 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic. In 2022, restrictions were lifted, and a few volunteer projects took place in Peru. Later, social unrest led to Maranatha suspending projects in Peru again.

Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain

Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain

Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, it’s renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments, and panoramic views.

Rainbow Mountain in Peru, also known as Vinicunca, is a striking Andean peak famous for its vivid, natural bands of color that appear as if the mountain were painted by hand. These layers of red, yellow, green, and turquoise were formed over millions of years by mineral deposits exposed as the ice melted, creating a surreal, almost otherworldly landscape. At over 16,400 feet above sea level, the mountain is surrounded by sweeping valleys, snow-capped peaks, and grazing alpacas, making the journey there as breathtaking as the destination itself.
