Overview

The Monterey Bay Academy (CA) Project is one of our many efforts based in North America. Each year, Maranatha works with organizations in the United States and Canada to provide volunteer labor for various construction or renovation projects.

Monterey Bay Academy (MBA) is located 15 miles south of Santa Cruz, California, in the small community of La Selva Beach. The boarding school sits on 379 coastal acres, which include about three fourths of a mile of private beach. The campus is home to beautifully kept lawns, flower beds, and Monterey pine and coastal cypress trees that frame amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. Once a U.S. military base, this school has now been in operation for more than 60 years and has served as a place of learning and spiritual growth for more than 8,000 students.

Volunteers on this project will help to paint and re-roof the school’s maintenance buildings, landscape and help with other projects around the campus.

There is space for 50 volunteers on this project. Volunteers will stay in the dorm guest rooms and bunkhouses. Volunteers will need to bring their own bedding and towels to use during the project. There are also 30 RV sites for those wanting to bring their RVs. Three spaces have water and electric hookups and all have access to the academy’s dump station.

Travel Information

If you are planning on flying to the project, the closest airport is in San Jose, California (airport code SJC), about an hour from the academy.

Please book flights that come in before 6 pm on the arrival date. If you need to fly in later than 6 pm or outside of the arrival and departure dates, please check with the Maranatha office to confirm that your travel plans can be accommodated or you may be responsible for arranging your own transportation to and from the airport.
