Kenya Project
Overview
**Please note that the final deadline for this project was September 16. If you’d like to still join the project Maranatha will need to collect your full payment, flight itinerary, and passport copy within a few days of your registration.**
Join Maranatha in the fascinating country of Kenya! There is a great need for churches and school in this eastern African country, and local church leadership have requested Maranatha’s assistance.
Volunteers on this project will be working at the Kajiado Adventist School and Rescue Center. This school started in 2000 with the mission to empower the Maasai girls and to give them a safe place to escape the culture that encourages child marriages and female genital mutilation. Once the girls move in, they basically become orphans since their families do not want them to come back. Since it began, the school has helped more than 2000 students. Currently they have 92 girls and 22 boys who help the girls form positive friendships with both genders. In addition, there are 50 high school and university aged girls who return on break. And there are another 100 girls on the waiting list!
Right now, the biggest need are new dormitories with bathrooms. Volunteers will help lay block for the walls of two bathrooms. If we have enough volunteers, we would also like to offer children’s ministry programs and health education programs for the children at the school.
This project also includes a safari excursion in the world-famous Masai Mara at the end of the project.
