Overview

We have a great opportunity to send volunteers to Cuba! The government has given us a special window of time to send volunteers to help construct a church in Cardenas, Cuba. We don’t know if or when we will have this opportunity again, so we are stepping out in faith and planning the project for the end of May. Due to visa processing time, it leaves us only two weeks to recruit volunteers, but we know that those who are able to join this project will come away blessed and will have been a blessing.

There is very limited availability as we can only accept 25 volunteers on the project; however, those 25 volunteers will be able to be a part of an answered prayer for a congregation who has been praying for more than 20 years for this building. Although it is still to be determined exactly what stage the construction will be in when volunteers arrive, the group will most likely be helping to lay the block walls of the church, but could also be involved in many other tasks of the job site.

Because of the visa process, we will only be accepting registrations until March 25. Maranatha must receive your non-refundable deposit and a copy of your passport showing validity until December 6, 2016 in order to be confirmed. So register now and be a part of this amazing opportunity!

Volunteers will purchase their own airfare to Cancun, Mexico where the group will meet together before flying into Havana. You will need to meet Maranatha representatives at the Cubana Airlines check-in counter in Terminal 2 at precisely 12 noon for check in. The group will be taking a 3:05 Cubana flight to Havana. Maranatha will have your Cubana tickets and Cuban visas ready for you.

After the project, the group will return together from Havana on another Cubana flight to Cancun. Then volunteers will return home from Cancun on flights leaving after 5:30pm.

If you require overnight accommodations before or after the project in Cancun, you will need to make your own reservations. Once in Cuba, volunteers will travel together on a tourist bus.

Havana Tour

Cuba has a rich culture and is known as a melting pot of Spanish and African culture. Due to the presence of communism in the country, many countries, including the United States, have restricted trade with Cuba which has resulted in a “Cuban Time Capsule.” Many of the cars and architecture still reflect the 1960’s and have been repaired using strictly local materials or materials sourced from countries which still permitted trade. Havana is a perfect place to get a taste for the culture and history of the island nation and during the project, volunteers will get a chance to tour the city and buy souvenirs.
