Overview
Maranatha offers at least two family projects each year that provide service opportunities for every member of your family, both young and old. In June 2025, join a mission trip to Paraguay!
Maranatha has a history of working in Paraguay reaching back to the late 1980’s. The churches and school classrooms that have been completed have since blossomed and have created a need for more urgently-needed buildings as congregations out-grow the current facilities. With nearly 7 million people in Paraguay, only 15,000 are Seventh-day Adventists. The SDA Church has 190 churches and 27 pastors in Paraguay. Pastors have a number of churches they oversee and the church members must take an active role. Church leadership in the country have requested assistance once again, and Maranatha is gladly responding to this call.
ScopeConstruction and Painting
Volunteers will lay block walls for the new San Alfredo Church. The lot is large with the foundation and frame in the front portion which faces a busy street. Participants will also paint the Presidente Franco Church located on the southern side of Ciudad del Este, near the point of “Three Borders” (Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina). This church was built by Maranatha in 2001.
Children’s Ministry
The group will reach out through children’s ministry with programming at the nearby elementary school (older grades in the morning and younger grades in the afternoon). They are eager to have visitors from another country come join them for school, recess, games, language exchange, and the give-and-take of meeting someone from a distance who has come in person.
Medical and Dental Clinics
Volunteers are going to team up with local physicians to conduct one-day clinics at six different locations around the city and suburbs, usually in connection with one of the SDA Churches in the district. Physicians, nurses, and translators are needed. We also plan to offer reading glasses. Physical therapists and other healthcare professionals would also add a tremendous gift to this service. Another gift would be cosmetologists—those who cut hair!
The dental clinic will serve separately from the medical clinic. We will set up in one location for three days and then move to a second location for the last three days. Dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants are all welcome, as well as translators and those with an interest in dental ministry.
Day Camp For Our Volunteers Ages 12 and Younger
Maranatha’s Family Projects are designed to be family-friendly and accommodate volunteers of any age. One unique feature of a Family Project is a “Day Camp” for children ages 12 and under. Children under five must have a parent with them at all times. Parents with kids ages 5-12 have three options and can vary their decision day by day.
- Have your child join the Day Camp and stay to help with the activities of the day.
- Drop your child off at the Day Camp for the day while you join other areas of the project.
- Keep your child with you on your work crew throughout the day.
