Overview

Maranatha’s annual teen-only project, the Ultimate Workout, is entering its 34th year, and we’re headed to Peru! Each year, high school aged teens from around the world join the Ultimate Workout and find opportunities to get out of their comfort zone, serve others, connect with Christ, and grow physically, socially, and spiritually. Maranatha provides all project leadership. In fact, adults are not allowed on the project unless they are leadership pre-selected by Maranatha.

This year we are expecting up to 120 volunteers to make a difference in Sicuani. Located at 11,644ft of altitude in Southern Peru, Sicuani is the capital of Canchis Province in the Cusco Region. It has an estimated population of 50,000 people and a vibrant Adventist membership that needs help. Teen volunteers will help construct two new churches (Los Lírios and Rosaspata), paint an existing church (Enmanuel), and reach out into the community through children’s ministry programs, and medical clinics.

Los Lírios Church – Was formed by a small group of Adventists who began meeting in the field, a piece of land bought with a loan. Rain was a problem for them. For a while, they rented a space but finally moved their gatherings to the church elder’s place. They have been waiting for 19 years for a church building. Recently, Maranatha provided the concrete slab, a metal structure and roof. Volunteers will come to build the walls and provide a permanent place of worship.

Rosaspata Church – It has been 25 years since a group of members coming from the Sicuani Central Adventist Church decided to plant a church in this area. Meetings started in tents but they also had to find refuge in a small home. Five years ago, church members finally bought a piece of land for $1,000 but after building the walls around the property to protect it, had no funds left for a building. The pandemic hit that church family but 20 people continued worshiping in that plot of land. Maranatha has also provided the foundation and structure for a new church and volunteers will lay blocks to complete the new building in July.

This project has limited capacity and confirmations will be made based on the submission of the $250 (non-refundable) deposit and availability for the Machu Picchu Excursion.
