Overview

Join Maranatha in the fascinating country of Kenya! There is a great need for churches and school in this eastern African country, and local church leadership has requested Maranatha’s assistance.

Volunteers on this project will be working at the Kajiado Adventist School and Rescue Center. This school started in 2000 with the mission to empower the Maasai girls and to give them a safe place to escape the culture that encourages child marriages and female genital mutilation. Once the girls move in, they basically become orphans since their families do not want them to come back. Since it began, the school has helped more than 2000 students. Currently they have 180 students and university aged girls who return on break. And there are many more girls on the waiting list!

This group will be building one of the final buildings on campus. Depending on the skills of the volunteers who join the team, there may also be opportunities to conduct local community outreach, children’s programs, and health education.

This project will also include two safari excursions at Amboseli National Park and the world-famous Masai Mara National Park!

Excursions
Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is located on the Kenya-Tanzania border, about an hour from Kajiado. Amboseli is one of the top ten national reserves in Kenya and boasts amazing views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants, and it’s possible to see the “Big Five” as well as many other animals, including cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, crocodiles, etc. The group will take a day off during the work week to visit this park.

Masai Mara National Park

Masai Mara National Park is one of the largest national parks in Kenya and known for “The Great Migration” of herds between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara each year. Within a few hours of being at the reserve, it is possible to see the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, water buffalo, rhinoceros, and elephant) as well as many other wild animals including zebras, giraffes, hippopotamuses, wildebeests, cheetahs, antelope, vultures, hyenas, and much more! The group will enjoy a full day safari in the park.

All hotels, food, transportation, activities, and park entrances during the excursion days are covered by the excursion fee paid to Maranatha.
