Overview

Maranatha’s annual teen-only project, the Ultimate Workout, is entering its 29th year, and we’re headed to Kenya! Each year, high school aged teens from around the world join the Ultimate Workout and find opportunities to grow physically, socially, and spiritually.

This year we are expecting more than 120 volunteers to make a difference at the Kiutine Adventist School, about seven hours north of Nairobi, Kenya. The high-school students at this school were living in deplorable conditions in small, cramped dormitories with dirt floors. The showers were just an enclosed muddy area where the students use buckets to bathe. Maranatha has been working at Kiutine for about a year now.

In July, the Ultimate Workout teens will complete the second boys dormitory, a building for staff apartments, and a classroom. In addition, the teens will also conduct local community outreach and children’s programs, and hold medical and dental clinics in surrounding villages.

Maranatha provides all project leadership; chaperones are not required in order for a teen or group of teens to attend. In fact, adults are not allowed on the project unless they are leadership hand selected by Maranatha, and teens are encouraged to experience the trip without a chaperone from their local area.

Register soon to secure your spot. Final deadline for full payment and additional forms is six weeks before the project: May 27, 2019.

Excursions
Safari and Giraffe Centre

During the project work week, volunteer teams will take turns going on a full-day excursion to Meru National Park, located just 15 minutes from the Kiutine campus. Here, you’ll have a chance to see some of Africa’s most popular animals, such as water buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, warthogs, baboons, impalas, and hippos. Lucky groups may even see lions, leopards, rhinoceros, cheetahs, crocodiles, ostriches, and more!

On the final day of the project, the entire group return to Nairobi. Everyone will visit the Giraffe Centre, where visitors have a chance to get up close and personal with the giraffes and even feed them! The group will also stop at a local shopping center with lots of crafts and souvenirs from Kenya.
