Overview

Maranatha’s Young Adult Project is designed for all young adults ages 18-35. Join volunteers from around the world as they participate in service in Peru!

Volunteers on this project will be one of the many volunteer groups working at the La Tinguiña Adventist School in a suburb of Ica, Peru. The congregation started meeting in this location in 1975 and have been praying ever since for an Adventist school. In 2019 Maranatha agreed to build them a school and later that year, the members stepped out in faith and tore down their existing church to make room on the property. Unfortunately COVID-19 has delayed the construction of the school, but the members are still faithfully awaiting their new school and construction is expected to resume in 2021.

Depending on the number of volunteers and their skills and interest, volunteers on this project will have the opportunity to conduct outreach projects in the local community which could include children’s ministry programming. 

This project also includes an optional excursion to the world-famous ruins of Machu Picchu!

ARRIVALVolunteers will arrive in Lima, Peru (airport code LIM) on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Those joining the optional excursion arrive in Cusco (CUZ) on Tuesday, June 29 and transfer from Cusco to Arequipa on the July 1st on a specific flight listed in the information packet.Please wait for confirmation from Maranatha before purchasing your airfare to ensure there is still space on the project.

Travel Information

Volunteers will purchase their own international and inter-Peru plane tickets according to the flight guidelines in the information packet. Maranatha representatives will meet volunteers upon arrival at the final destination airport.

Excursions
Huacachina - Included

Huacachina is a small oasis nestled among sand dunes approximately 20 minutes outside of Ica. Volunteers will have the chance to take a dune buggy up the dunes where they can enjoy the views or try they can try their hand at sand boarding down the dune. There are a few shops surrounding the water that have souvenirs.

Machu Picchu - $500 per person

Volunteers can choose to extend their stay in Peru by joining an optional excursion to visit the world-famous Incan ruins of Machu Picchu PRIOR to the project. The excursion will take place June 29 – July 1 and has an additional fee of $500 per person.

Tuesday, June 29: Volunteers will arrive in Cusco and will then travel by bus to Urubamba, which is a lower altitude, where they’ll spend the night.

Wednesday, June 30: The group will take a train and bus to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu has been voted one of the “New” Seven Wonders of the World and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Incan city was built in 1450 as an estate for the Incan emperor, and it was abandoned approximately 100 years later during the Spanish Conquest. Volunteers will take a guided tour of the ruins.

Thursday, July 1: The group will explore the Sacred Valley and the city of Cusco before departing from Cusco that evening on a specific flight (see information packet) to join the rest of the volunteers in Lima.

Anyone wanting to join the Machu Picchu excursion will need to register and fully pay for the excursion prior to a set deadline. Non-refundable train tickets must be purchased using passport copies, so please include that with your registration. After the tickets are purchased, $250 of the excursion fee becomes non-refundable.
