Peru Project
Overview
Update (Jan 2021): As countries continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic regulations change regularly. At this time Maranatha is moving forward with the preparation for this project. Those planning on joining this project should go ahead and register and we will update registered volunteers if there are any changes to the status of the project.
Maranatha worked all throughout Peru in the early 2000’s. The churches and schools that were completed have since blossomed and created a need for even more urgently-needed church and school buildings. Local church leadership have requested assistance once again, and Maranatha is gladly responding to this call.
Volunteers on this project will lay the floor and foundation of a new church building for the Los Milagros congregation in the Pachacutec area of Peru, about 40 minutes north of the capital of Lima. Pouring the foundation is hard work but vital to the strength of the building. It will involve tying rebar cages, mixing concrete, and leveling the floor. Once the floor has set, volunteers will use drills and screws to assemble the metal church structure. A group will follow in July to build the block walls of the structure.
Pachacutec is a very poor suburb of Lima, and the community will be quite receptive to children’s programs and health education. In addition to the construction, the group will put on an extensive evangelism outreach to meet this need.
After the project, there will be an optional excursion to the world-famous ruins of Machu Picchu.
