Overview

Maranatha offers at least two family projects each year that provide service opportunities for every member of your family, both young and old. This year, spend Christmas in the country of Peru!

Maranatha worked all throughout Peru in the early 2000’s. The churches and schools that were completed have since blossomed and created a need for even more urgently-needed church and school buildings. Local church leadership have requested assistance once again, and Maranatha is gladly responding to this call.

Volunteers on this project will work with two congregations in Arequipa, Peru. The group will complete block walls for a new church for the Los Portales congregation as well as pour the floor and assemble the metal church structure for the Horacio Zeballos congregation.

In addition, volunteers will conduct community outreach including medical and dental clinics, children’s ministry, and health education. A special day camp will be offered for children 12 and under which will give younger volunteers a unique opportunity to learn more about life in Peru while also helping in all the other aspects of the mission trip as well.

Prior to the project, the group will have the opportunity to visit the world famous ruins of Machu Picchu!

Excursions
Machu Picchu Optional Excursion - $500

Volunteers can choose to extend their stay in Peru by joining an excursion to visit the world-famous Incan ruins of Machu Picchu prior to the project. The excursion will take place December 21-23 and has an additional fee of $500 per person.

After arriving in Cusco and spending the night in Urubamba, the group will take a train to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu has been voted one of the “New” Seven Wonders of the World and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This Incan city was built in 1450 as an estate for the Incan emperor, and it was abandoned approximately 100 years later during the Spanish Conquest. Volunteers will take a guided tour of the ruins.

The following day, the group will have time to explore the city of Cusco before departing from Cusco and flying to Arequipa to start the volunteer project.

Anyone wanting to join the Machu Picchu excursion will need to register and fully pay for the excursion before November 9. Non-refundable train tickets must be purchased using passport copies, so please include that with your registration. After the tickets are purchased, $250 of the excursion fee becomes non-refundable.
